This year the YW were in charge of planning the ward Christmas party. We wanted to really focus about Christ this year. We decided to have different scenes that have represented the “Christmas” holiday. Our scenes included kids making their lists “but mom it only costs $200”, Black Friday “That’s MY TV”, Christmas Morning “He got more than me!” Then we got into some more meaningful scenes like Visiting the lonely, Armed Forces Family, Helping the less fortunate. Of course it would not be complete without Santa’s workshop!
The night of, December 8, 2012 we then had “the less fortunate” leading our guests through these scenes and into our “Soup Kitchen” for supper. During dinner member could help tie quilts that we plan to take to the shelters later this month. At the end we had the best scene of all. As Bishop read the story of Christmas the youth acted it out then sang a great song called “Where’s the Line to See Jesus?” The song was perfect as we tried to bring the focus back to the Savior this Christmas. It’s not about shopping, it’s not about the gifts under the tree. It’s about that baby born in a manger!
It was awesome because Jonathon got to play Santa in the workshop – Ethen totally guessed it was him but I told him that the REAL Santa couldn’t be here yet and asked him to fill in. He totally bought it when after the program there was an opportunity for the kids to sit on Santa’s lap – and that was NOT Jonathon!
