We have been official homeschoolers for a few months now. For the most part we are in a de-schooling time. This is the time we are resetting and learning again that learning can be fun! We have started attending group activities and are having so much fun! We meet once a week for PE days, feild trips, crafts and learning fun. Ethen, at first was hesitant to join in, he is quite shy at first around new people, but now has made wonderful new friends. Yesterday we had PE day with a potluck lunch at a local park. It was a lot of fun and there were so many kids there. It was great!
Last week we did a science fair. It was very informal, each child chose an experiment to do and showed the others what we learned. Ethen demonstrated the different density between liquids. We used honey, corn syrup, water, dish soap, vegetable oil and 70% alcohol. We learned that honey is the heaviest and sank all the way to the bottom, then corn syrup, dish soap, water, oil and alcohol as the lightest.
The Smith's did two projects. They were showing how celery soaks water, but it wasn't working well so they also made some oobleck. Oobleck is a corn starch and water mixture that acts as both a solid and a liquid. It's pretty cool and the mythbusters did an episode about walking on water that demonstrates oobleck.
We had new friends, Blade and Anwen teach us about seeds and freezing liquids.
All of the kids did awesome and really enjoyed the science fair!
The week before was a craft day and we made bubble snakes. We learned how to make our own bubble mixture too!
We have souch fun at homechool group activities. I am so grateful to have a group of ladies that are dedicated to their children's education. I am grateful for the support that they give - especially when I'm not feeling to sure about what I'm doing!
