This summer didn’t go as I had hoped it would. Between limited financial ability (no thanks to a supposed partnership) to my mother trying to kill herself in an ATV accident (not really but kind of) and just basically running out of time – this summer was kind of a bummer! But that’s ok. The times we did have was pretty fun! We spent the 4th of July in Idaho and were able to attend mom’s wedding to GW!
Today has been long awaited I guess. I wasn’t as excited for the summer to end as before. Not only did it mean the end of Ethen’s summer break, but mine as well. We ended the summer with one final BBQ bash last night. After a quick shower and teeth brushing, Jonathon administered a Father’s Blessing upon Ethen, a ritual we do every year before school starts!
This morning, I woke Ethen up at 6:30 and he was groggy at first, until I said “We gotta get ready for school!” I don’t think I’ve seen this kid more excited! I swear I think he was ready in 10 minutes! Now I know this morning routine will change as the year moves on – but it was fun to see this morning!
As is now a Speece Family tradition, I snapped our annual “1st Day of School” pictures! Ethen always holds a sign that says what grade he is in and what he wants to be when he grows up. I’m pretty impressed that for 3 years in a row Ethen has kept his dream of becoming a Navy Seal. Usually kids become intrigued with other professions, but not my kid!
Ok so here is LAST year’s picture just for reference of just how much this kid has grown in a year!!! It’s a good THREE inches people!!!
The first day of school was nerve wracking for me! I had no clue how things work on the other side of the school, where his class is or even who his teacher is! Those, at least to me, seemed like important information to relay to the parents! Alas that was not the case. Thankfully we were allowed to go to the class rooms rather than drop off at the playground!
Ethen was being so strong but I could just tell he was hurting inside, but he didn’t want me to be upset so he held it in until I left… ok not really – that was me!
For some reason I was not the excited mom sending her kid off to school so she could have a break. I GENUINELY missed him today!!! Even during my classes, I found myself wondering how he was doing!!! I know I’m lame, but whatever! I accept that mushy mommy part of me!!!
I was grateful when the time came to get my Lil’man! All though, I think I’m going to have to figure out a new parking routine – parking where I normally parked last year (for ease of exit) doesn’t seem to work now that I have to pick up on the OTHER end of the school! But if I park over there – I have a NIGHTMARE of a time getting out! UGH – I hate it!
Ethen had a wonderful day and told me that on Monday’s he gets to go to PE! Awesome dude! I am looking forward to seeing what the rest of the week brings!
Speaking of parking, as we were walking all the way across campus to the car, we see Ethen’s Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Tilley. Ethen got all emotional and said he wanted to go say hi! He ran up to her and gave her a big hug. As we were leaving he said he wished he was still in her class – FOREVER! I asked him “then how would you learn your 1st grade stuff, because Mrs. Tilley only teaches Kindergarten?” That one kind of stumped him!
Here is to a new school year! I’m excited for Lil’man but dreading my classes! My communications class I’m not worried about (that much), my US History and Management class I’m semi-worried but my accounting class – yikes! Lord please help me!!!
