YW Fundraiser Auction

This has been one of the busiest days – EVER! I had to finish up my CERT training (Community Emergency Response Team) – but I’ll get to that later! This post is all about some of my favorite people – our ward’s Young Women (ok the young men too but more so the girls!!!)

Every year the girl get to go to “Girls Camp” in the summer. A week long campout full of spirituality and fun! With such a small ward (and in a lower income area) a lot of girls can’t afford the cost to go so… FUNDRAISER!!!

This year we decided to do a dinner and auction. Since it was scheduled for March 17th, dinner of course was a traditional Irish meal – milk can stew. Ham, Sausage, corn on the cob, whole potatoes and cabbage thrown into a milk can and pressure cooked over a fire! YUMMY – It was so good!!!

What would an Irish celebration be without a man in a kilt! This was special because this kilt belonged to his grandfather – talk about a family heirloom!

The auction started as a silent auction where the bids were anonymous then we handed the mic over to an ACTUAL AUCTIONEER! He was good too!!!

All items were placed on the tables and people could walk around and bid on things that they liked. I donated a set of crocheted dishcloths (that I happened to make the night before and rushed to finish this morning – WHILE at CERT training!!!)

We had some pretty crazy weather tonight as well. A thunderstorm hit our valley and well… knocked out the power!

After a few minutes in the dark the Bishop Rickey announced that one of our faithful young women approached him and said that we should say a prayer. I am so impressed with this youth! The faith and the fortitude that they possess is BEYOND description! About 15 minutes later – the power came back on! (in the mean time we hooked up a generator and some floodlights – no blackout is gonna keep up from having fun!

ON WITH THE AUCTION!

Here are some of the items that were bided on…

Our awesome Young Women’s President, Sister Crum, created a beautiful hanging centered around the Young Women Values of:

Faith, Divine Nature, Individual Worth, Knowledge, Choice & Accountability, Good Works, Integrity and Virtue.

A flower from paper in the coordinating color and glued to a board (very cute). Everyone fought so hard but the winning bid – $75.    {It cost Sister Crum a whopping $2 (YES TWO) – to make it!} You can see it in the picture below.

A very delicious apple pie. I was told it’s the best in the world and doesn’t even need ice cream to go with it… how much? Would you believe a whopping $63!!! A second pie turned around and sold for $50!!! AMAZING!!!

How much would you pay for a YEAR LONG PASS from speaking in church? This sold for… 100 dollars

(only one person bid on this! Apparently she doesn’t like speaking in church!!!!)

There were many more items to be auctioned but these were some of our hot sellers. They finally tally is still being counted!
